Blind Spots

You're driving in the middle lane, you check your side mirror to turn left and no cars are around. You start turning your steering wheel but a car appears out of nowhere. You quickly steer your car back to its lane.

Even if you are the best driver in the world, even if your mirrors are properly adjusted, you will have a blind spot.

The thing about blind spots is they aren't caused by your lack of awareness. You did check, you did everything you're supposed to. But you found nothing. Nothing.

Some things in life take us by surprise. Some things in life happen, and for a moment we feel delusional.

"How did I not see this coming?"

"How did I not see all the signs?"

We blame ourselves for the things we are literally incapable of seeing. Why do we hold ourselves to an unrealistic standard?

If someone else came to you with the same issue, you'd comfort them and say, "You couldn't have seen it. This isn't on you."

Why are we always easier on others than our own selves?

There are several factors that take part in our decision making and in interpreting what we observe. Sometimes emotions can take over. Sometimes your anxious thoughts can cloud your judgement. Sometimes pre-existing ideologies can overpower the present moment. We grow up, but our thoughts are growing with us too. They are built on each other, and some thoughts are heavier than others.

When a thought is formed, it is created from our rooted beliefs, our prior knowledge, our experiences, and all what makes us who we are.

We can never be fully objective because we are wired not to be. The simple need to be objective leads to lack of objectivity.

The act of thinking on its own is subjective.

There are things we will never be able to see. And that's okay.

The beautiful thing about being human is connecting. It's about sharing. We are not complete on our own, but we complete each other.

Two eyes can only see so much.

You'll sit in my passenger seat and point to the cars I cannot see, and I'll sit in yours
